Our story
Re-launching the second incarnation of Australia's first all Brazilian repertoire Choir in Melbourne BORBOLETA PRETA (Black Butterfly) is a lively group of culture & travel-loving singers and musicians who love to learn and share música Brasileira - featuring a diverse and groove-based repertoire sung by a multi-cultural and generational ensemble.

Borboleta Preta was born in hard lockdown when Di (Melb) & Mila (Rio) ran Virtual Brazilian choir Lab 'Braz Oz' from 2021-2023. On the first day we met to sing live after 2 years online, we were surrounded by black butterflies (with small white polka dots) and Mila in Rio was surrounded by them in the same week - a sign! Borboleta was re-born.
This new/renewed choir has voices from Borboleta and lots of newer recruits who've been singing Brazilian music for years in the closet & beyond.. we enjoy exploring Brazilian language & culture as part of our ongoing shared semester... Recently 12 of us took the opportunity to sing in Brazil on 'Sing Harmony Brazil' tour in late June/July '25. It was life changing, inspirational and magical.
